"A person in front of the camera takes on a role. Maybe it’s how they want to see themselves or want me (and you) to see them. I have also caught them imitating the pictures that they have seen me take before, but I was not telling anyone to drop the mask. This persona is part of our ego and part of the full picture of a human. This role that is supposed to be intimate, our usually hidden bodies and the rare unmoderated moments of an inner self that you are not supposed to see is what this work is about."
BLACK is a collection of 4 years of work with 80+ models in the studio in front of a black backdrop. The book collects about 150 pictures and some thoughts on 168 pages by Dániel Z. Aczél.
Everything Else by aczel
I have a significant amount of random pictures. I took my camera with me everywhere for years... in my hometown, Budapest and on travels. All these pictures that I haven’t published - nor planned to publish - were just sitting on my hard drives collecting virtual dust.
These shots from the streets, of my friends and throwaways from my shoots can be summarized as “Everything Else” and ironically enough, they might be my favourites.
